Screen Grabs: OS 3.x, OS 4.1 and MorphOS

Last Update to 'read-me-first.html': 8 Mar 2010

Ver. 0.28 Public Beta Release 3 (28 Feb 2010)

Update - AmiTwitter has reached over 550+ downloads (overall) for AmigaOS 3.x, 4.1 and MorphOS!

Dependency on glib removed for all OS's thanks to Cyborg! First OS 4.1 version. Updated swedish, italian catalogs and all FAQs. New program icons added courtesy of Patrick Jung. Countless bug fixes, again thanks to Cyborg! More robust download of Timelines (and images), (NULL) Location: fixed to "n/a", many more. Feedback in general and donations have been sparse...please consider making a donation (see links below) or at least sending an email (or Tweet!) if you like or dislike AmiTwitter. Most improvements are inspired by user's requests...

Ver. 0.27 Public Beta Release 2 (24 Feb 2010)

Update - Ver 0.27 had reached 149 downloads in 3 days (AmigaOS 3.x and MorphOS)!

New features of this release include full localization. Catalogs that have been completed thus far: Deutsch, Español, Français, Polski, Nederlands, Italiano, Greek and Swedish. More are planned or in work: Norsk, Danish, Finnish, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian. If you are interested in doing others, my email is listed at the bottom of the page. Other features that have been added to this version include number of characters typed countdown for Tweets and Direct Messages (thanks JahC!). Also new menu items include most recent Direct Message -> Sent and most recent Direct Message -> Received. The logo size has been reduced and enhanced to better represent the Operating Systems it runs on, Modern looking .png button images courtesy of Martin "Mason" Merz. International Character Support via codesets.library has been implemented! Allows for much better display particularly of international characters output.

Ver. 0.23 Public Beta Release 1 (23 Dec 2009)

Update - Ver 0.23 had reached 253 downloads (AmigaOS 3.x and MorphOS)!

At long last (two and a half months of coding in my spare time) the first public beta release of AmiTwitter is at hand. It was begun as a proof-of-concept and has quickly evolved and is still evolving.

Getting Started

This is beta software. Use it entirely at your own risk. It has been found to be stable on the Operating Systems listed below, however, I assume no liability for loss of data and/or damage to your machine. You have been warned.

Additionally, It still has many limitations and should not be considered a "final" product. Please consider making a small contribution by clicking here or consider joining the SourceForge project if you have MUI/gcc coding skills to help improve it's overall functionality and/or portability. I will not have as much free time in upcoming months to devote to this project and my coding skills are limited, since I only do this as a hobby, therefore new features and updates will most likely depend on people like you contributing to the project and improving the source code!

Features

Operating System Requirements

AmiTwitter currently runs on the following Operating Systems:

It has been successfully tested on: AmigaOS 3.1/030, 3.9/060, 3.9 (WinUAE, AmiKit); MorphOS 2.4, AmigaOS 4.1

Installation Requirements

You must have the following MUI/.mcc's installed:

You must have the following libraries installed:

Other Requirements:

AmigaOS 3.x Version Only (MorphOS version is compiled with -noixemul option):

Installation

Assuming you've met the requirements listed above, just place the entire 'AmiTwitter' directory wherever you'd like on your hard drive. Place the enclosed libiconv.ixlibary in your system 'Libs' directory (if you don't already have it...)

Usage

To use AmiTwitter you must first have an active Twitter account and enter your User Name/Password in the Tools -> Settings dialog and click Save:

Settings Screen Grab with Character Set Option

Once you have saved your settings you can begin using AmiTwitter. Be sure to check the 'bubble help' if you are unsure of what a part of the program does. Also, I recommend configuring HTMLtext.mcc to use .ttf fonts (on AmigaOS 3.x you must have freetype2.library installed, properly configured) for a better output display. Also, configure TheBar settings to suit your taste under the 'MUI Prefs' menu item.

Known Limitations/To Do

Feel free to jump in and help tackle these coding issues...

Troubleshooting

Please see the FAQs menu item for a list of possible answers first. AmiTwitter can be started from the commandline for a more verbose program and error output. Run SnoopDos/Snoopium to ensure you are not missing any required components. Also, extensive bubble help is available throughout the program...

One of the most common issues is that you get the following "Attempting to get the latest..." message which seems to 'hang' and do nothing:

The most likely reason is that you don't have anything in that currently selected item. Just click on any other menu item or button and the program will resume as normal. This occurs because there is nothing on the Twitter server to retrieve for that particular item.
